What Little Girls Are Made Of by phraught

At the time, I did not have "movie permission".   I had intended to go back and fix some problems (the Ruk character originally had a lot more animation - but I had cloth problems - don't get me started, but I think I know where I went wrong).

A year and a half later it's pretty obvious I'm not getting to those issues anytime soon, so I thought I'd upload this version - which looks quite a bit nicer.   Maybe someday I'll give Ruk a bit more to do - and fix those walk and talk layers that, trust me, did look good at one point, but POSer dropped those layers - apparently a known bug.

I highly recommend full screen in 1920x1080, if you can.

I guess as good a time as any for the backstory...

After tracking down the myths across several star systems, Dr. Roger Corby decided that planet Exo III was the most likely source of the fantastic stories he'd been tracing for years.  Reaching the planet only took a few weeks and entry into the planet's atmosphere went well.

But the planet's extreme cold was too much for their ship; they lost control in the last few seconds and crashed.   Only Corby and his close assistant of many years, Dr. Brown, survived but Brown was seriously injured.   Sensors indicated some sort of an above ground structure, possibly leading to a vast, underground complex.

When it was obvious that there was no other option, Corby and Brown headed out into the extreme cold for the structure, but once there, could find no entry.

Corby awoke in what was almost certainly an underground complex, carved out of the planet's rock.  His next sight shook him to his core: Ruk, left behind by the Old Ones, was tending to him and Dr. Brown.

Over the next weeks Corby learned more of the history of Exo III, as Ruk learned their language.  Corby began to see that the rumors of a planet of androids who had taken over from their masters was true.

But Dr. Brown's condition was deteriorating quickly.   Brown insisted that in the event he died, Corby was to try to use the duplicator to save him, or as much of him as they could.

That time came sooner than either of them had anticipated.  Ruk and Corby placed Brown's body in the duplicating table and transferred his form onto the android blank.  They then transferred what they could of his mind to the android body, but death had taken its toll.  The android Brown was only a shadow of the original man.

As the months passed, Corby learned more about the android technology.   His legs, useless after his nearly being frozen to death before Ruk had saved them, were only the most obvious of his problems.  He was dying and there was nothing he could do about it.   He decided he could not suffer the fate of Brown: transferred to an android as only half of what he was.  He made the decision to transfer his essence to an android body before death took its toll.

The process completed without incident.  Corby stepped off the duplicating table and walked around to see the half a man he used to be.  It was then he saw his mission.

As Corby continued to learn more about the history of the inhabitants of Exo III and their technology, he realized he could create an android to his own specifications.  He and Brown worked with Ruk to create a humanoid android - they would call it: "Andrea".   They worked for several months, perfecting the model until they were ready.

Ruk suspended the "blank" in the levitating field and joined Corby in the control room.   Dr. Brown entered and took his position.  He considered whether the subtle alterations he had made to the mental patterns of the android Andrea would be successful.

A prequel and an homage to the Star Trek, original series episode, "What Are Little Girls Made of?".

I didn't read the text until something clicked when Andrea spoke - "Dr Brown!!??" Then I finally noticed the names Corby &  Ruk and it all came back to me.

Excellent work - smooth animation and ran at full-screen and 1080p on the TV in the other room. (Saved the download to a thumb drive and played it from that.)

Did you render & record at 30fps or more? (60 fps?)

Nice!  And you may recall - she never said "... you must be Dr. Brown".   :)  Nice to know the download worked well on your TV - kind of the target platform...  (in fact - 1920x1080 3D was the actual target - if your TV can do SBS 3D - I can post that too).

Render at 30 fps - and at that - I think it took about 2 weeks to render.

Happy Solstice!

Well - it depends on where you live - it's 4:45 AM UTC so it'll be Dec 22 in the UK - but here in the states, it'll still be the 21st.   Next year - leap day will push it back to the 22nd most places.

Yeah - come on rain - looks like  we're due for a big one tomorrow!

I must've did something wrong. My android only have a flat screen and very small.

Perfect, flawless animation. If you didn't mention about the audio issues, I would have thought that it was perfect as well :)
